Bank deposit slips · printed in New York

Deposit slips encoded to your account, printed on the same press as your checks

A deposit slip is a MICR job like any other: the routing and account line has to read at the teller window and the lockbox scanner. We print it here in magnetic ink, in the format your bank and your software expect.

Three kinds: laser slips your accounting program prints, QuickBooks deposit slips, and manual books you fill in by hand. All three are on our presses.

3 types

What is printed on the ticket

Your company name and address, the bank name, and the MICR line in magnetic ink, positioned to the banking standard.

  • Routing and account number encoded in MICR toner
  • Numbered tickets, with a starting number you choose
  • Cash, coin and check lines, with an overflow area on the back where the format allows
  • Optional duplicate copy on manual books

Order them with your checks

Most customers add deposit slips to a check order so both come off the press encoded to the same account and ship in one box. Start from business checks or manual checks and add slips at the cart, or start here and add checks after.

Deposit slip questions

What the bank will ask, answered before you order.

How do I fill out a business deposit slip?
Business bank deposit slip filled in with cash and check lines

Write the date, then list what you are depositing: cash on the cash line as one total, and each check on its own line with the amount and, where the slip provides a column for it, the payer name or the check number. Add the lines to get a subtotal, subtract anything you want back as cash on the less-cash line, and write the result on the total line. Sign it if you are taking cash back - most banks require a signature only in that case.

On a pre-printed business slip your account number and bank details are already there in the MICR line, so you are not copying account numbers by hand and the teller is not keying them in. Endorse the back of every check you are depositing before you hand the bundle over, which is where a For Deposit Only endorsement stamp saves time: one impression per check with your business name and account number instead of a signature on each one.

Keep your copy. Two-part and three-part slips exist so that the carbonless copy stays with your books as evidence of what was in the bundle; a duplicate slip has settled many arguments about a check that supposedly was not deposited. Our deposit slips start at $15.69 per 250 in laser, QuickBooks and manual book formats, printed with MICR magnetic toner on security paper.

Do banks still use deposit slips?
Business deposit slips in book and laser formats

Yes for branch and night-drop deposits, and it depends by bank for everything else. If you walk cash or a bundle of checks into a branch, a slip is still how the deposit is described and totalled, and most banks want a business deposit on a slip rather than loose. Where slips have genuinely fallen away is mobile and ATM deposits: photographing a check in an app needs no slip, and many deposit-taking ATMs count the items themselves.

Cash is the reason business slips persist. Mobile deposit does not take cash, so any business with a till, a market stall or a service van still makes physical deposits, and a pre-printed slip with your account number in the MICR line makes those faster and less error-prone than a counter slip filled in by hand. Practices vary between banks and even between branches of the same bank, so if you are unsure, ask yours what it wants for a business cash deposit.

The other reason is your own records. A slip with a carbonless copy leaves you holding a dated list of exactly which checks went in, which no app screenshot matches for completeness. Our deposit slips are $15.69 per 250 in laser format for printing from software, QuickBooks-compatible format, and manual books for over-the-counter use.

What information do I need to order pre-printed deposit slips?
Pre-printed business deposit slip showing bank and account details

You need the same bank data a check needs plus your business heading: the bank name and branch city, the nine-digit routing number, your account number, and the business name and address you want printed at the top. The cleanest way to supply it is from an existing check or an existing deposit slip for the same account, since the numbers there are already in the arrangement your bank uses.

Two details are worth extra care. First, a deposit slip MICR line is not always identical to the check MICR line for the same account - some banks use a different code on deposit items - so copy from an old deposit slip if you have one rather than assuming the check line applies. Second, choose the format before you order: laser sheets to print from software, QuickBooks-compatible sheets, or a manual book, and one-part, two-part or three-part for how many copies you keep.

If your bank supplied a MICR specification sheet, send it with your order and we will follow it. If you are opening a new account and have no slip or check yet, get the routing and account numbers in writing from the bank rather than reading them off a screen. Deposit slips start at $15.69 per 250 and ship within our 24-48 hour turnaround; call (800)-385-1363 if you are unsure what to send.

What is the difference between 1-part, 2-part and 3-part deposit slips?
Two part deposit slip with carbonless copy

The number counts how many copies you get of each slip. A one-part slip is a single sheet: you fill it in, the bank keeps it, and your only record is whatever you wrote down separately. A two-part slip has a carbonless copy underneath, so the bank keeps the original and you keep an exact duplicate. A three-part slip gives you two copies, which suits businesses where one copy goes to the bookkeeper and one stays with the till or the branch file.

For a business the two-part slip is usually the right default. The copy is written by the same pen stroke as the original, so it cannot disagree with what the bank received, and it records exactly which checks were in the bundle. When a customer insists a check was handed over and your bank statement disagrees, that copy is the document that settles it in minutes rather than days.

One-part slips make sense where the deposit is already recorded elsewhere - printed from accounting software with the deposit posted at the same time, for instance. Our deposit slips start at $15.69 per 250 in laser, QuickBooks-compatible and manual book formats, printed on security paper with MICR magnetic toner and shipped within our 24-48 hour turnaround.

Do QuickBooks deposit slips need special software?
QuickBooks compatible deposit slips and checks

No extra software beyond QuickBooks itself. QuickBooks-compatible deposit slips are laid out so that the deposit summary QuickBooks prints lands in the right columns on the slip, with the slip on one part of the sheet and a listing area alongside it. You record the deposit in QuickBooks as usual, choose to print a deposit slip, and load the sheet in your ordinary laser or inkjet printer.

What you should check is the print setup rather than the software licence. As with checks, print at 100 per cent with any fit-to-page option off, and print one test on plain paper to hold against the real slip before running a batch. Menu wording and the exact deposit-slip print path differ between QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online and move between versions, so follow your own version help for the current steps.

If you deposit at a branch and just want a book to write in, the manual deposit slip book is the simpler product - no printing, carbonless copy included. Laser and QuickBooks-compatible deposit slips and manual books all start at $15.69 per 250 here, printed with MICR magnetic toner on security paper with your bank details taken from what you supply.

Are your deposit slips accepted at all US banks?
Deposit slips printed with MICR encoding for bank processing

They are printed to the industry specification US banks process - correct paper, correct MICR encoding in magnetic toner, correct field layout - and in normal use a bank handles them exactly as it handles slips it supplied. But the honest answer is that acceptance is the bank's decision, not ours, and a small number of banks keep particular requirements for deposit items on their accounts.

So the safe order is this. Copy the bank details from an existing deposit slip for the same account rather than from a check, since some banks encode deposit items differently. If your bank has issued a MICR specification sheet, send it with the order. When the slips arrive, take one to the branch or the night drop with your next deposit and confirm it went through cleanly before you rely on the box for the rest of the year.

If a slip is ever rejected, the cause is nearly always a mismatched MICR arrangement rather than the paper, and it is fixable: send us what the bank says it needs and we reprint to that specification. Our deposit slips are $15.69 per 250 with our 24-48 hour turnaround and a 100 per cent satisfaction guarantee, and you can reach us on (800)-385-1363 if your bank raises a question.

Do deposit slips come in books or loose sheets?
Deposit slip book and loose laser deposit slips

Both, and the format follows how you deposit. A manual deposit book is bound like a checkbook, with slips in sequence and a carbonless copy behind each one, so it lives in the till drawer or the deposit bag and goes to the branch with you. Laser deposit slips are loose 8-1/2 x 11 sheets designed to go through a printer, so your accounting software prints the deposit detail rather than you writing it.

Choose the book if deposits are made by hand at a counter or a night drop, especially where more than one person makes them: writing in a bound book with sequential slips gives you a running record nobody has to remember to keep. Choose laser sheets if the deposit is already entered in software, because printing the slip from the same record removes the transcription step and the arithmetic mistakes that come with it.

Book slips are also available as one-part, two-part or three-part depending on how many copies you want to retain. All formats carry your business name and the MICR line encoded for your account, are printed with MICR magnetic toner on security paper, and start at $15.69 per 250 with our 24-48 hour turnaround.

Can I print my own deposit slips?
Laser deposit slips printed from accounting software

You can print deposit slips, and whether your bank will take them depends on your bank and on whether the MICR line is printed magnetically. A slip is not a negotiable instrument, so the rules are looser than for checks, and some banks will accept a plain printed slip or even a hand-written counter slip for a business deposit. Others process deposit items by machine and want a properly encoded MICR line, in which case an ordinary printer is not enough.

If you want to print your own, the same three requirements as blank check stock apply: software that composes the deposit MICR line, a laser printer with a MICR toner cartridge, and appropriate stock. Ask your bank first, because there is no point buying a cartridge to satisfy a bank that would have taken a pre-printed slip anyway, and no point printing non-magnetic slips for a bank that will not read them.

For most small businesses the arithmetic favours pre-printed slips: $15.69 per 250 with your bank details and MICR line already encoded in magnetic toner, available as laser sheets, QuickBooks-compatible sheets or a manual book. That removes the equipment question entirely, and it removes the risk of a deposit being delayed while a teller keys in numbers a scanner could not read.
